Michael Odysseus Yakoumakis is Rich With Syllables and Genius

Michael Odysseus Yakoumakis: Philosopher shouting at the couch potatoes in Plato’s Cave to snap out of it 2017. Oil on canvas, 50 x 70 cm

This traveled from Greece to Quintus beneath the golden sun on a jumbo jet, at the exact altitude Daedalus instructed for safe delivery of modern paintings to another world. The everyday world works very efficiently and effectively for the most part, getting things done on purpose so that many can eat and sleep without survival worries. This is good. The lucky get life, and the real lucky get life and freedom.

I would hang this painting in my busiest home thoroughfare, and before stepping out each day, bow to it on the many levels of respect and admiration which it deserves.

If in the area of the southern finger lakes, I urge you to get to the show to see this painting. 160 years ago Thoreau wrote that everywhere he could find teachers of philosophy but no philosophers. So true today. And our families and neighbors suffer dearly for it.

Oh well.

At Quintus you can find a philosopher who paints. Or you can be the philosopher who paints, or you can learn a thing or two from a painter who philosophizes, or you can paint and just be.

And that is a big piece of Stuckism.

So is this painting.
